Anesthesiology Residency Program

Program Director Welcome

Thank you for your interest in our program! We are excited to show you the advantages of Oklahoma State University’s anesthesia residency and how to learn more about becoming a future resident.

We take three incoming interns per year. With this smaller class size, we have the advantage of providing cases tailored to the residents individual needs. We are also able to assign complex cardiac, vascular, obstetric and regional cases early as a CA-1 and on a regular ongoing basis.

Our attending physicians get to know you personally and are dedicated to your success. Oklahoma State University Medical Center is one of the largest osteopathic training facilities with an extensive and rich history training residents. Other residency programs include General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, OBGYN, Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Cardiology Fellowship.

We also have strong affiliations with a major stroke center, women’s center, and heart institute in Tulsa to facilitate targeted elective rotations and additional reinforcement prior to graduation. Not only will you be able to experience the benefit of an added perspective, but you will begin to broaden your network as a physician that has helped our graduates find the job or fellowship they are looking for after residency.

The case load at OSU is more than adequate for our residents to meet and exceed ACGME requirements, with some residents more than doubling and tripling their numbers in areas as they desire. This is possible while still maintaining a balanced family life outside of the operating room. We allow outside moonlighting for those interested, and have several opportunities available right here in Tulsa.

Our patient population is widely diverse. Many patients are underserved and have an undiagnosed and extensive medical history. From day one, you will be assigned to cases involving the most complex comorbidities, thrown into the fire so to speak. As you participate in out rotations, you will recognize the advantage of this as physicians regularly provide feedback that our residents are among the most prepared for clinical practice they have worked with.

Finally, we are a team that is unified. Each of us looks out for one another. The current residents have a strong bond that will exist well beyond residency. We hope you strongly consider Oklahoma State University as you search for the best training opportunity for you.

Please explore our website and contact us with any questions you may have. We also look forward to those who wish to rotate with us and encourage you to do so. You may just discover that OSU belongs at the top of your list!

Sincerely,

Brad White, D.O. and Trevor Bright, D.O.

Program Description

The Department of Anesthesiology is part of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at the OSU Center for Health Sciences. Our faculty offers high-quality instruction and training for the next generation of anesthesiologists.

We take three incoming interns per year. With this smaller class size, we have the advantage of providing cases tailored to the resident’s individual needs. We are also able to assign complex cardiac, vascular, obstetric and regional cases early as a CA-1 and on a regular ongoing basis.

We have strong affiliations with a major stroke center, women’s center, and heart institute in Tulsa to facilitate targeted elective rotations and additional reinforcement prior to graduation.

Our main training location is the OSU Medical Center, one of the nation's largest teaching hospitals with 249 beds and nearly 47,000 ER visits a year. Our department also has affiliations with a major stroke center, women's health center and heart institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
