CHW Scholars Certificate Program

The Oklahoma AHEC Community Health Worker Scholars 15-week program is designed to enhance and broaden your healthcare training through didactic education and community-based experiences in a rural or underserved Oklahoma community. This training offers a broad range of primary practical education to community health workers, care coordinators, service navigators, and any health support staff dedicated to improving their clientele's health outcomes.

Program Requirements

AHEC Community Health Worker Scholars is a 15-week program, and each component below must be completed to complete the program successfully.

1. Orientation 
   1. Attend a virtual orientation at the start of the program. This includes an introduction to the program and the staff and an overview of the core topic areas.
2. AHEC Adapted Community Health Clubs 
   1. Attend six required AHEC Community Health Clubs, which focus on current and relevant health topics and include the opportunity to participate in discussions with other CHW Scholars.
3. Attend Eight Hours of AHEC Scholars Events
   1. Attend a combination of AHEC Connects, Skills Advancements or CHW ECHO sessions to understand better health challenges and cultural considerations affecting Oklahoma populations. AHEC offers live in-person, live virtual, or virtual on-demand options to accommodate various schedules and topic interests.
4. Final Presentation
5. Program Evaluation / 1-Year Program Follow-Up
   1. Participate in an end-of-program evaluation.
   2. Participate in 1-year program follow-up.

 

Eligibility

The Community Health Worker training is designed to provide new and current community health workers with the necessary knowledge to address several health needs in the community.
