Application Information

Applicants are required to meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible to interview:

1. Graduate of a COCA accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine
2. Graduate of a United States (US) LCME college of medicine plus completion of all OSU-CHS/OMECO prerequisite requirements for entry into an ACGME accredited Osteopathic Recognition residency program.
3. Graduate of a US LCME college of medicine and a passing score on the COMLEX-USA Level 1, Level 2 CE and Level 2 PE exams.

Applicants will be considered only with the completion of an application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) for the 2018 application year. Interviews for the program typically start in September and are normally completed by November.

Applications must include:

• Official transcript from an accredited College of Medicine
• All national board scores for exams taken to date
• Three letters of recommendation
• Dean’s letter of recommendation with current GPA and class ranking

Interviews

A current National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX-USA) transcript and/or US Medical Licensing Exam must be included as part of the application.  Interviews will be conducted between October and December each year

Eligible applicants will be considered for interview, ranking and appointment based on:

1. Academic performance
2. Grade point average
3. COMLEX-USA Level 1, 2CE and 2 PE
4. USMLE Step 1, 2CK and 2CS
5. Completion of OSU-CHS/OMECO pre-matriculation requirements for entering the Osteopathic Recognition Program
6. Ability
7. Overall preparedness
8. Communication skills
9. Personal qualities (such as motivation and integrity)
10. The interview, compatibility of the applicant with program philosophy and goals, academic record, letters of recommendation, and evidence of involvement in and commitment to psychiatric medicine weigh heavily in the selection and ranking of applicants
11. Preference in offering interviews and the selection/ranking of interviewees will be given to those applicants who:
12. Are likely to fulfill the mission of this residency, specifically the mission to graduate Psychiatric Medicine physicians who will provide the full range of osteopathic primary care practice in rural and medically underserved areas in Oklahoma.
13. Are current students in an accredited US medical school, or have graduated from an accredited US medical school within the last two years.
14. Have no gaps or delays in their medical training history.
15. Have not had any failed attempts on COMLEX or USMLE exams.
16. Only candidates with passing scores on COMLEX 1, 2CE, 2PE or USMLE Step 1, 2CK and 2CS will be considered for the finalized Rank List that is submitted to the National Residency Matching Service (NRMP).

Audition Rotation

Please visit the Office of Clinical Education to review the following:

• Complete the visiting student application
• Upload the required documentation
• Proof of Completed Compliance Training (eg, HIPAA, ACLS/BLS, TB test, Mask fitting)
• Letter of good standing
• Current CV and photo
• Immunization verification form
• Background check report
• Certificate of malpractice liability coverage
• Proof of health insurance coverage
• 10 panel drug screen report
• HIPAA/BBP training certificates
• Letter of intent for Family Medicine
• Passing your COMLEX
• Verify that an affiliation agreement is in place with your school and OSU

Once these items have been uploaded, your file will be forwarded to the Department of Psychiatric Medicine for review.  An email will be sent to the student with an approval or denial of their request.

ERAS Information

Applicants are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Completed applications are reviewed periodically and candidates are notified when there is sufficient information to offer an interview. Interview dates are granted to qualified candidates.

Non-DO Applicants

20 Business Days Prior to the Match the Applicant Must Have Ready for Submission:

1. 60 hours of OSU-COM’s years one and two to include; OMM I, II, III, and IV. A Teaching Guide for Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine or lectures may be used to direct the lab portion. Certificate of completion will be provided.  OMM education from outside institutions will not be accepted.
2. Verification that candidate completed the CORRE examination with a minimum passing score at or above the 10th percentile.
3. Letter of recommendation from a D.O. with an active practice to be included with residency application. (letter must indicate that applicant understands osteopathic philosophy)

During Residency:

1. Complete 60 hours of OPP Continuing Medical Education, approved by the OSU-CHS/OMECO, achieved through any of the following: CME courses, didactics, elective rotations, etc. focusing on clinical application.
2. Successfully pass an OMM basic skills competency practical examination, administered by OSU-CHS faculty, prior to PGY-2.
3. Satisfactorily progress through the Osteopathic Recognition Milestones during residency.

 

Osteopathic Recognition Eligibility Criteria

1. Prior to matriculation
   • Completes 60 hours of OSU-COM’s years one and two to include; OMM I, II, III, and IV. A Teaching Guide for Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine or lectures may be used to direct the lab portion.
   • Successfully pass the CORRE examination with a minimum passing standard determined by the Sponsoring Institution.
   • Letter of recommendation from a D.O. with an active practice to be included with residency application. (letter must indicate that applicant understands osteopathic philosophy)
2. During residency
   • Completes 60 hours of OPP Continuing Medical Education, approved by the Sponsoring Institution, achieved through any of the following: CME courses, didactics, elective rotations, etc. focusing on clinical application.
   • Successfully passes an OMM basic skills competency practical examination prior to PGY-2.
   • Satisfactorily progresses through the Osteopathic Recognition Milestones during residency.
