Dr. Jason Beaman graduated medical school from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences. He then completed two simultaneous residencies in Psychiatry and Family Medicine.

 

After residency, Dr. Beaman completed a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He holds board certifications in Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. After Fellowship, Dr. Beaman completed a Master’s Degree in Pharmacology with an emphasis in Forensics at the University of Florida. He also obtained a Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.

Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Tessa Chesher is a member of the psychiatry faculty at the OSU School of Community Medicine and is board certified in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. She completed her general psychiatry training at the University Of Oklahoma School Of Community Medicine, and her child and adolescent psychiatry training at Tulane University School of Medicine.  She completed a Harris Fellowship in Infant and Early Childhood Psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine. She was on faculty at Tulane in the departments of child and adolescent psychiatry and pediatrics. She is now an associate professor in the department of psychiatry at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences. Dr. Chesher’s professional interests include infant and early childhood mental health and pediatric consultation-liaison psychiatry.

Interim Chair, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Director, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr. Coffey is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences (OSUCHS). Dr. Coffey completed her adult psychiatry residency at the University of Chicago and her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Cambridge Health Alliance. During her adult psychiatry training, Dr. Coffey served as the chair of the Public Health Committee for the American Medical Association’s Resident’s Committee. She served as a public psychiatry fellow for the American Psychiatric Association for two years during her psychiatry training. Dr. Coffey has extensive experience working within the public-school system in both Cambridge, Massachusetts and Tulsa Area Public Schools. Dr. Coffey is a regionally known speaker on the effects of trauma in the classroom and integrated care. Dr. Coffey is currently contracted with the Department of Mental Health to provide technical assistance in the implementation of Oklahoma Health Homes. In this line of work, Dr. Coffey serves as an expert in integrated care models and best practices of integration and collaboration between primary care and behavioral health. Through her partnership with the Department of mental health she has provided on-site consultation to the majority of health homes in Oklahoma and has lectured on both collaborative care models in pediatrics, as well as, preventative care in children. Dr. Coffey serves as a consultant for the Department of Human Services Child Welfare and is a Co-Lead on OSUCHS’s Pediatric Behavioral and Emotional Health ECHO. Additionally, Dr. Coffey serves as the Behavioral Health Medical Director for the Oklahoma State University (OSU) Health Access Network.

 

Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Deshpande is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Deshpande was also awarded the Fellow Status for the American Psychiatry Association (APA) in 2014. She is currently the President of Oklahoma Council for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a regional branch for the national organization of American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and has been awarded a distinguished fellowship status in 2020 for AACAP. She has broad training in various kinds of specialized psychotherapies including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and trauma informed therapy. She has obtained specialized trainings in Psychopharmacology Child abuse and Neglect, Functional medicine, Psychoanalytic therapy and Obesity Medicine.

Dr. Deshpande was the Program Director for The Child Psychiatry Fellowship from 2014 to 2020. She has given didactics, provided direct clinical supervision in outpatient child psychiatry clinic and consultation liaison service at University of Oklahoma, (OU) Children’s hospital, and mentored numerous medical students, adult psychiatry residents, child psychiatry fellows since 2009. She has won several awards for outstanding teaching including the prestigious Gordon Deckert award, highest teaching award in the Department of Psychiatry at OU in 2018. At OU, as a child psychiatry fellowship program director, she established within the child fellowship a robust child outpatient clinic She has also provided clinical care to numerous patients in the child psychiatry outpatient clinic as well as the provided consultation services at the tertiary level OU Children’s Hospital from 2009 to 2020.

Dr. Dunn currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at OSU Center for Health Sciences. She received her medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed her Psychiatry Residency at OU-Tulsa. She enjoys seeing lives transformed with holistic, evidence-based addiction treatment providing not only medication-assisted treatment for addiction, but also treatment for problems that lead to addiction at OSU's new Addiction Medicine Specialty Clinic. She is also passionate about Physician and Trainee Well-being, working to help teach and care for Residents and Students at OSU-CHS so they can have fulfilling, resilient lifelong careers.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Alicia Ito Ford completed her doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Kansas, with psychology residency at the Ann Arbor VA. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Michigan Health System. Dr. Ford's clinical and research interests include the assessment and treatment of cognitive effects of medical and psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Ford is Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the OSU-CHS Psychiatry Clerkship Program.

Dr. Reagan Gill earned her Bachelor of Sciences degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma and her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She continued her psychiatry residency training at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences where she served as Chief Resident. During this time, Dr. Gill was employed as the project manager for the plaintiff in the case of State of Oklahoma v Purdue Pharma et al. Dr. Gill received numerous awards from her residency program including the Program Director Award, Senior Resident of the Year, and Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Resident Teacher. Additionally, Dr. Gill was named a Resnick Scholar by the Midwest Chapter of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law recognizing her achievements in forensic psychiatry. After graduating from her psychiatry residency program, Dr. Gill completed her forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento, California. Dr. Gill is board certified in psychiatry and licensed to practice medicine in California, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

Dr. Gill’s expertise includes exploring female incarceration, domestic violence, stalking, dissociative disorders, LGBTQ+ issues, cults, and severe mental illness in the legal system.

 

Dr. Gill holds memberships in several organizations including the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, Oklahoma Psychiatric Physicians Association, Tulsa Psychiatric Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Osteopathic Association, Oklahoma Osteopathic Association, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Brian Goetsch is the Clinical Assistant Professor within the OSU Behavioral Medicine Clinic. Before joining OSU-CHS, Dr. Goetsch served as the Director of Behavioral Health at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Tulsa, OK. His hope at OSU-CHS is to provide highest quality of services for OSU’s patients and to help equip clinicians to offer best-practice care to all of Oklahoma’s communities. Dr. Goetsch has served and trained in multiple healthcare settings, completing his graduate training in Clinical Psychology at George Fox University, his internship at The University of Colorado- Denver Health, and has since worked in a private practice setting and community health settings. He has experience treating patients across the lifespan, seeing children, adolescents and adults with a broad variety of needs and concerns. His approach to care typically begins with a person-centered, relationship based framework that draws on multiple evidence-based approaches to care, including ACT, Behavioral interventions and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Dr. Goetsch has presented and published in the areas of clinical training, barriers to care, and the intersection between religion and psychology. Dr. Goetsch’s specific areas of interest and research include the impact of religious and spiritual factors on well-being and outcomes in psychotherapy, as wells as the integration of team-based, behavioral health care in medical settings. Dr. Goetsch actively welcomes and appreciates clients from diverse backgrounds and belief systems, and is qualified to offer services in both English and Spanish.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Jennifer Hale is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at OSU-CHS. She earned her bachelor's in psychology from Oklahoma State University in 2010. She graduated from her doctoral program in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University in 2016. Her pre-doctoral internship was in North Carolina at Central Regional Hospital on the Forensic Tract and she completed her post-doctoral residency at Florida State Hospital. Following her post-doctoral residency, Dr. Hale worked at Florida State Hospital in the Forensic Admissions Unit as a staff psychologist for patients adjudged incompetent to stand trial and not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI). Job duties included writing reports for the court, testifying as needed, participating as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, administering testing, engaging in crisis intervention, and supervising trainees. Dr. Hale started work at the Oklahoma Forensic Center in 2019, completing competency to stand trial evaluations, violence risk assessments, supervising pre-doctoral interns, and testifying as needed. She became the co-chair of the Northeastern Oklahoma Psychology Internship Program (NOPIP) in 2021. Her research interests include forensic assessment, malingering, and multicultural issues.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Micah Hartwell’s research focuses on public health topics – food security, addiction, nutrition, and exercise – using an array of statistical and mapping tools and techniques. He obtained his PhD from Oklahoma State University’s REMS program with emphasis in applied statistics, which provided an opportunity to analyze social and nutritional behaviors and biomarkers with NHANES data and publish a best practices manuscript on using structural equation modeling with complex survey data.  The work won first place in the Methods category at the 2018 American Society of Nutrition Conference and earned OSU’s Graduate Research Excellence Award. He has partnered with Feeding American and Cornell to publish technical reports on behavioral economics within food pantries and food banks, the OSU FAB study to assess nutrient biomarkers and transdermal alcohol sensors, and the OSU Center for Wellness and Recovery in conjunction with Laureate Institute for Brain Research to analyze processed MRI data from 11,000+ children related to prenatal exposures.

Dr. Hartwell received additional statistical training from attending Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Summer Institute of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and University of Oklahoma College of Public Health, Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology and Oklahoma Shared Clinical & Translational Resources in Bayesian analyses, clinical trials, and burden assessment and health economics.  In coordination with Dr. Matt Vassar, his current focus is to extend the office of medical student research further into improving the quality of clinical research as well as extending mentorship to more students.

Jennifer Hays-Grudo, PhD, is a Regents professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Center for Health Sciences at Oklahoma State University. She is the Director and Principal Investigator of the Center for Integrative Research on Childhood Adversity (CIRCA), an $11.3M, five-year, NIH-funded center grant that coordinates research studies on the effects of trauma and poverty on children’s health and development. From 2008 to 2013, she was a George Kaiser Family Foundation Chair in Community Medicine at OU-Tulsa, where she led the Tulsa Children’s Project, a highly integrated set of interventions to reduce the effects of intergenerational poverty and adversity. Before coming to Oklahoma, she was on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where she led the Office of Health Promotion, and conducted NIH-funded research on the effects of the family on behavior and health. With Dr. Amanda Morris, she is the co-author of A developmental perspective on overcoming adversity, to be published summer 2019 by American Psychological Press, and is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Adversity and Resilience (Springer), first volume to be published March, 2020.

Tvli Jacob is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. He is the Clinical Assistant Professor for Oklahoma State University (OSU) Center for Health Sciences (CHS) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, holding a position on the Cherokee Nation Campus. His research is done in collaboration with the Center for Indigenous Health Policy and Research (CIHRP) at OSU. Having worked with tribes throughout the United States and Canada, Tvli has used media content through community-based participatory research media methods to study and understand health with Indigenous Peoples. Tvli has also worked in developing, implementing and evaluating research in tribal communities.

Dr. Samuel Martin is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at OSU-CHS. He completed his medical training and general psychiatry residency at the University of Oklahoma. He is board certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine. He has interest in treating individuals with addictive disorders and co-morbid psychiatric disorders. He has provided education on multiple addiction topics including pharmacology of addictive substances, screening for addictive illnesses, pharmacologic treatment of addictive disorders, and psychotherapeutic treatment of addictive disorders. He is director of Addiction Medicine at OSU and leads the OSU Addiction Medicine ECHO program. He has provided addiction and psychiatric care to adults receiving detoxification and residential treatment services at 12 & 12 since 2011. He served as Medical Director at 12&12, Inc. from 2016 to 2020.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Anna Mazur is a Board Certified Neuropsychologist and Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She serves as an Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at OSU-CHS. 

 

Dr. Mazur completed the doctoral training at Ball State University, followed by Residency at London Health Sciences Centre and fellowship at Alberta Children Hospital. Dr. Mazur works with individuals with history of TBI, concussion, neurological, psychiatric and developmental disorders. Dr. Mazur is active in research, with interest in PTSD and assessment validity, as well as evaluating the efficacy of mental health treatment. 

 

Dr. Mazur is serves as the director of Neuropsychology Division at OSU Behavioral Medicine Clinic and is a panel member the OSU Pediatric Mental Health ECHO program. She provides neuropsychological services to children and adults at the OSU Behavioral Medicine Clinic.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Alina Messick is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and serves as preceptor for the OSU PA Program. She is a physician assistant at the OSU Addiction Recovery Clinic. She obtained her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Towson University in Baltimore, MD, as well as a Master’s in Public Health from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. She has experience in the field of addiction medicine, as well as physical medicine and rehabilitation. She is passionate about providing medication assisted treatment in the clinical setting. Her interests include working with patients who have both chronic pain and a substance use disorder.

Dr. Amanda Sheffield Morris is a developmental scientist with research interests in parenting, emotion regulation, and developmental psychopathology. Her research focuses on the role of emotion regulation in child and adolescent adjustment and the ways in which children learn successful regulation skills. She received her PhD. from Temple University in Psychology, was a post doctoral fellow at Arizona State University, and taught at the University of New Orleans for five years. She is currently an Associate Professor at Oklahoma State University in the Department of Human Development and Family Science.

Dr. Aaron Pierce serves as Clinical Professor for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is board certified in psychiatry. He attended Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. After residency, Dr. Pierce completed a visiting fellowship in electroconvulsive  therapy (ECT) at Duke University. His professional interests include electroconvulsive therapy, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Dr. Sara House Rich serves as clinical assistant professor for the OSU-CHS Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. Dr. Rich graduated from OSU’s School Psychology program in 2011 after completing an internship at Devereux Center for Effective Schools in Pennsylvania. She has served as a certified school psychologist in Oklahoma public schools. She has expertise in Applied Behavioral Analysis and facilitating multi-tiered system level changes for schools' academic and behavioral intervention processes. Dr. Rich is a licensed Health Service Psychologist and Nationally Board Certified School Psychologist. She is also an active board member of the Oklahoma School Psychological Association and Oklahoma Delegate for the National Association of School Psychologists.

 

Dr. Rich is Co-Director of OSU BRIDGE Center, which provides trainings to teachers and school staff evidence-based strategies for children at-risk for learning and behavioral difficulties, consultation on  development of preventative multi-tiered system of support, and program evaluation for federal grants supporting mental health services in schools.  Through the OSU-Behavioral Medicine Clinic, Dr. Rich offers assessments for children with behavioral or neurocognitive disorders, such as Autism, ADHD, and learning disorders. Dr. Rich's Research interests include school-based consultation, identifying effective academic and behavioral interventions, and generalization of academic skills.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Brit’ny Stein serves as clinical assistant professor for the OSU-CHS Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. Dr. Stein is a Licensed Health Service Psychologist and Nationally Certified School Psychologist who conducts psychological evaluations for children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and neurocognitive disorders in the OSU Behavioral Medicine Clinic. She pursued her doctoral training in School Psychology at Oklahoma State University, specializing in both early childhood and applied behavior analysis. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Devereux Center for Effective Schools before returning to Oklahoma to work on federal grants in rural schools. Dr. Stein has assisted in writing and implementing multiple state and federally funded grants, including an Education Innovation in Research (EIR) grant and a Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant. For five years, she worked to improve school climate as the field supervisor of school psychology graduate students completing both their school-based practicum and multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) coaching assistantships.

 

Dr. Stein also has experience serving as a consultant on tiered systems support to rural, suburban, and urban schools, as well as to the Oklahoma State Department of Education. She is passionate about the interconnection of mental health services and evidence-based school practices within a prevention and intervention framework of data-based decision-making. She currently serves as the OSU BRIDGE Center’s Director of Technical Assistance, helping coordinate and provide MTSS professional development and consultation services to school districts. Dr. Stein also serves on the Oklahoma School Psychological Association Board. Her clinical and research interests include evidence-based school practices to support children with academic and behavioral concerns and effective collaboration between school and community mental health services for children within the MTSS framework.

Vivian Stevens, PhD is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago Medical School/University of Health Sciences and completed her internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center/Veteran Affairs Medical Center Consortium in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Stevens teaches in the undergraduate medical curriculum and in the Psychiatry Residency and Family Medicine Residency Programs. After serving in an administrative capacity for a decade, Dr. Stevens transitioned back to a full-time faculty appointment in 2017. She currently focuses her interests in the areas of student/physician wellness, positive psychology, behavioral medicine, and physician-patient communication skills. Her hobbies include cycling in the great outdoors, yoga, and dancing.

Matt Vassar, Ph.D. is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at OSU-CHS. Dr. Vassar received a bachelor of arts in sociology, a masters degree in business administration, and a PhD in research, evaluation, measurement, and statistics from Oklahoma State University. His research focuses on improving the conduct and reporting of medical research. His studies have been published in many high impact factor medical journals, including ​Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Oncology, JAMA Neurology, JAMA Dermatology, JAMA Otolaryngology, Annals of Oncology, European Urology, Annals of Emergency Medicine, ​and ​British Journal of Anaesthesia​. His research has been featured in the New York Times, Nature, Science, the BMJ, and Reuters Health, and his research has been ranked in the top 5% of all research outputs as scored by Altmetrics multiple times. He is a test reviewer for Buros Mental Measurement Yearbook and a member of the Society for Clinical Trials and the Orthopedic Research Society. He teaches courses on clinical trials, systematic reviews, scientific writing, grant writing, and statistics. He enjoys traveling, reading, and golf.
