The mission of the Oklahoma State University Gynecology and Obstetrics Residency Program is to train outstanding obstetrician-gynecologists who possess an excellent fund of knowledge and sound surgical skills, are prepared to pursue any avenue of practice they desire, and will become leaders in the field.
Our trainees will receive a first-rate education at Oklahoma State University. Our program is more than just an apprenticeship — it’s a culture of discovery. The country's largest single site osteopathic hospital, OSU Medical Center, is located just blocks from the OSU Center for Health Sciences. What began as Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital by a group of pioneering osteopathic physicians in 1944 has grown to become one of the nation's largest osteopathic health care centers. OSU Medical Center is a flagship hospital in eastern Oklahoma. Licensed for 426 beds, with premier emergency and outpatient programs, it is poised for great outreach and growth in the 21st century. OSU Medical Center is committed to quality patient care. Because the medical center sees a wide variety of high acuity cases, the postgraduate training programs are seen as a critical priority by the medical center staff and administration.
Annually, OSU Medical Center:
- Admits over 13,000 patients
- Experiences over 30,000 emergency room visits
- Experiences over 25,000 outpatient visits
- Performs nearly 4,000 surgi-center
- Performs nearly 3,500 inpatient procedures
Staff physicians have trained at some of the nation's most prestigious medical institutions and have a high regard for their personal role in postgraduate education. Internships and residency positions in many different disciplines are available. OSU Medical Center is significantly involved in clinical training for medical students, nurses, therapists and technicians from several area schools and colleges.

Saint Francis Hospital was founded by Mr. and Mrs. William K. Warren, Sr. in 1955 and opened its doors in 1960. The hospital originally consisted of a six-story building with 275 acute-care beds and 40 newborn beds.
Saint Francis Hospital, a 1,112-bed tertiary center, includes the region's only children's hospital and level IV neonatal intensive care unit, a 168-bed heart hospital and Tulsa's leading trauma and emergency center.

Women of all ages and stages in life share specific health needs and concerns including birth control, childbirth, and menopause. OSU OB/GYN offers a variety of women’s services from prenatal care and delivery, 4D ultrasounds, well woman exams, IUD insertion and cancer and STD screenings. Our team of providers are well-trained to provide excellent obstetrical care of high-risk patients via Telehealth video conferencing with the University of Arkansas Medical School's Maternal Fetal Medicine. Whatever a woman needs, OSU OB/GYN physicians have the special expertise to provide compassionate care throughout the many phases of a woman’s life.
Didactics & Conferences
Structured didactics are a cornerstone of the Oklahoma State University Obstetrics & Gynecology program. Required readings, journal findings and research articles are a mainstay of the program.
Medical Student Clerkship
This clerkship is conducted under the supervision of the Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Associate Dean for Clinical Education. The Chairperson, or his/her designee, will assign the immediate supervisor(s) for each student or group of students. Student activities will be coordinated to combine didactic and practical instruction to optimize educational opportunities.
The goals for this clerkship are to: (1) introduce the osteopathic medical student to the field of obstetrics & gynecology, (2) enable the osteopathic medical student to recognize common disease processes and corresponding treatments, (3) incorporate a multidisciplinary approach to caring for an obstetrics & gynecology patient, and (4) prepare the osteopathic student for a holistic approach to patient care, regardless of the specialty said student chooses to pursue.
The curriculum will emphasize the work-up, evaluation, and treatment and disposition of patients. Students will obtain this knowledge through the completion of selected readings, online lectures, presentations, and exams. Students will incorporate this knowledge through their experiences in the clinic, hospital and operating room.
